Introduction

The urgent cry of millions of hearts and souls today is a cry for help. Even when surrounded with blessings and plenty, often people are quietly suffering or enduring difficult trials, unknown even to their closest friends and family. Many people are ridden with guilt and anguish - they desire deliverance, but often turn to other means and do not turn to Jesus Christ.

The plea for help may be spoken, or it may be hidden behind tear-filled and anxious eyes, but people want to be set free and delivered from the severe trials and difficulties they face.

Individuals are needed to listen to and counsel with those who are crying to be released from alcoholism or drugs, guilt, fear, marital problems and many other burdens. They need to be shown that God loves them and has not turned His ear from their cries, and they need to learn to trust God for salvation, guidance, and healing.

I challenge you to pray: "Dear God, I want that experience. I want to know what it is to win someone to Jesus Christ." Why be ashamed of the Gospel? "It is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16). It changes lives here and now, and for eternity!

The Dutch evangelist Corrie ten Boom had a God-given desire to win others to Christ. One of her poems says,

"When I enter that beautiful city
And the saints all around me appear,
I hope that someone will tell me:
'It was you who invited me here.'"

Whatever our place in the Body of Christ, let's actively and prayerfully invite others into God's kingdom. After all, God doesn't have a plan A, a plan B and a plan C for evangelizing the world. He has only one plan--and that's you and me.

What this guide offers

In the left column, you will find suggestions to help you in your discussions, whether counseling or witnessing, including how to answer many of the common excuses one will hear. You will find the do's and don't of sharing your faith, and how to use the law of the Old Testament to witness to the lost. For when you are counseling, we have gathered a selection of Bible promises, that is, scripture verses relating to a specific topic such as healing, salvation, or patience.

We have a selection of free PDF or Flash tracts which you can send your friends by e-mail, and we also have a a free salvation tract designed for you to print and distribute.

I highly recommend listening to the streaming audio message from Kirk Cameron entitled, "Hell's Best Kept Secret." It contains valuable information on witnessing and explains why modern evangelistic methods are failing. It's nearly one hour long, but definitely worth your time.

Closing Thought from Leonard Ravenhill

This is an hour in need of burning hearts, bursting lips and brimming eyes! If we were a tenth as spiritual as we think we are, our streets would be filled each Sunday with throngs of believers marching to Zion - with sacks on their bodies and ashes on their shaking heads, shaking at the calamity that has brought the Church to be the unlovely, unnerved, unproductive thing that she is!

If we wept as much in the prayer closet as devout Jews have done at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, we would now be enjoying a prevailing, purging revival! If we would return to apostolic practice - waiting upon the Lord for apostolic power - we could then go forth to apostolic possibilities! This is the hour when we are asked over and over again, "Is everybody happy?" God's purpose for us is not happiness, but HOLINESS!

Could a mariner sit idle if he heard the drowning cry?
Could a doctor sit in comfort and just let his patients die?
Could a fireman sit idle, let men burn and give no hand?
Can you sit at ease in Zion with the world around you DAMNED?
