"And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: and both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come." (John 2:1-4).
Weddings in Bible times were big events, often lasting several days. During this time, there was much feasting and speech-making, and the host had to make sure there was plenty of food and wine on-hand for the guests. To run out of food and wine would bring much embarassment to the host and to the bride and groom. It is in this setting that Jesus performed His first miracle.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the first to notice that the wine has run out. She runs to her Son, "They have no wine."
Jesus' response to her is interesting, "My time is not yet come." Jesus has a time and a place for His first miracle, and this isn't it. But something caused Jesus to change His plan. Why did Jesus fulfill her request? What motivated Him to change His plan and perform this miracle?
No, it wasn't a death. It wasn't a sickness. Simply, His friends were embarassed. And what bothered them also bothered Him. Jesus changed His divine plan ordained from the foundation of the world to meet the need of a host who had not planned ahead and ordered enough wine. So, don't think your needs aren't important to God. Go ahead and tell Him your hurts. Talk to Him and tell Him what is on your mind. He will not turn you away.
"For we have not a high priest who is not able to be touched by the feelings of our feeble flesh; but we have one who has been tested in all points as we ourselves are tested, but without sin. Then let us come near to the seat of grace without fear, so that mercy may be given to us, and we may get grace for our help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:15-16 BBE)
