What the Bible Says About

Victory Over Sin: A Study in Romans 6

Millions of Christians across the world are living in defeat. They are slaves to sin, to that one thing which has ensnared them, and they cannot obtain and keep the victory. They love the Lord and long with all their hearts to please Him and to serve Him in righteousness. But the Bible declares that sin shall not have dominion over us, nor that we should be servants of sin. So why do many Christians continue to live in bondage to sin?...(more)

The Holy Spirit

Throughout the Bible, the Holy Spirit is revealed as a person with an distinct individuality and personality. He is a divine Person and a member of the Trinity, like the Father and Jesus Christ, and not just a mere influence or force of power. He is worthy of our love, fellowship, and worship. He is one with the Father and Son, working together with them in perfect love and unity. He seeks only that Jesus Christ be glorified....(more)

Praise and Worship

Why do we praise the Lord? One of the obvious reasons is because of the splendor, glory, and majesty of our God, the One who created the heavens and the earth, the One who is to be exalted in His holiness. We are to praise Him for His might acts, His salvation and redemption, and for His unfailing mercy, grace, and love....(more)

The Fear of the Lord

I know my little boy loves me and his mom, and desires to make us proud of him. But it is the fear of his mom and myself that keeps him from doing wrong. Without this fear and respect of their parents, children will become rebellious or insubordinate. In school, kids will behave and learn under the rule of some teachers, but these same kids will misbehave and become unruly under other teachers. It all has to do with respect an honor; a desire to please and a fear of punishment. Churches, denominations or even entire nations which have lost their fear of the Lord become tolerant of sin and wickedness and are doomed for failure. "The whole duty of man", Jeremiah wrote, is to "Fear God, and keep his commandments."...(more)

Holiness and Sanctification

Separation was a continual requirement of God for His people. God's people were expected to be different, holy, and separated from all other people, and belong to Him as His very own. God wanted to reveal Himself to the world, and chose to perform it by working through a separated people He could call His own. Nations of the world would know that the God of the Israelites was the true God by how they lived in righteousness, and how God moved and worked through them. Likewise, the same is true for the Christian, for we are commanded to "be blameless and harmless, the sons of God without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world."....(more)

Jesus in the Old Testament

When we study the Old Testament, we find what are called types that are fulfilled in the coming of the Messiah. In these types, there is a correspondence between people, events or rituals of the Old Testament and Jesus Christ. For instance, the Passover was a foreshadow or type of the blood of the Lamb of God who would take away our sin and free us from bondage, who's covering would spare us from judgment, and who's mark separates and distinguishes us from the world...(more)

The Temple of God

The sacrifices made daily in the temple could not take away our sins, but only cover them. The writer of Hebrews said of Christ, "For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered?... And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: but (Jesus), after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God."...(more)

The Day of Atonement

The Day of Atonement is full of symbolism which points to the ministry and work of Jesus Christ. The purpose of the atoning sacrifice was to provide a covering for sin, but God wanted to take their sin away. The author of Hebrews states that the laws and rituals were "a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things."...(more)

The Book of Revelation and Bible Prophecy

Prophecies are being fulfilled before our eyes as the world moves swiftly toward the end. You've heard the news and the talk: European Union. Implant microchips. One world currency. What does it all mean? During the Seven Year Tribulation period, there will be tremendous suffering. "For then shall be great tribulation," Jesus said, "such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." (Matthew 24:21). The disciples asked Him, "Master, but when shall these things be? And what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?"...(more)

Prayer and Fasting

We will examine more closely during our study the acts of prayer, fasting and intercession, and we will answer some of the common questions many people have regarding prayer, "Why should I pray?; How can I pray more effectively?; Is there a wrong way to pray?; Why aren't my prayers answered?"...(more)

The Book of James

In this study we take a systematic look at the Book of James, and examine more closely his writings. James is a small, but powerful book, and contains many teachings the modern church needs to rediscover....(more)

The Attributes of God

To the New Testament believer, God's final revelation of His attributes and His character is found in Jesus Christ. If we want to understand fully who God is and what He is like, then we must look to Jesus, who was God in the flesh. Colossians 2:9 (KJV) states, "For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily."...(more)

The Elder Brother: Returning from Slavery to Sonship

In Christ's parable of the Prodigal Son and the Elder Brother, He held up a mirror to the Scribes and Pharisees, for they had acted in the same spirit as the Elder Brother. Today, the Elder Brother continues to stand before us as a representative of believers who continue to live as slaves to God instead of as His sons (this is a research paper I wrote for a Bible college class on the Life of Christ)....(more)
